A properly densified and guard-coated polished floor can last decades with routine damp mopping. The densifier hardens the concrete matrix itself, so the durability is built into the slab, not a surface film that wears away.

Most slabs can be polished, but the starting grit and achievable sheen depend on slab hardness, age, and surface condition. The on-site assessment confirms what finish is realistic before the estimate is written.

Without densifier, the concrete stays porous and soft. The surface will dust under foot traffic, a fine powder that appears on shoes and furniture. Densifier is applied mid-grind specifically to prevent this.

Polished concrete with a penetrating guard coat is typically ready for foot traffic within 24 hours. The installer confirms the exact cure window for the specific guard coat product used on your floor.

A high-gloss finish can be slippery when wet. The installer can specify a guard coat with a slip-resistance additive for areas prone to moisture, such as kitchens or entryways. This is agreed before work starts.

The guard coat applied at the end of the polishing process acts as the sealer. No additional topcoat is needed. Routine maintenance is damp mopping with a pH-neutral cleaner, no waxing or recoating required.
